Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas! We've really missed being with all the family today, but have had a lot of fun exploring Christmas with Caleb. Last year he had no clue what was going on, but this year Caleb is comprehending quite a bit. Randy braved the craziness at the mall yesterday afternoon to allow Caleb one last look at his beloved Santa. We expect there is going to be some sadness when he realizes that Santa is gone for the year. Last night we wrote a letter to Santa and left out some cookies and milk, hoping that Caleb would understand the evidence of Santa's presence.

This morning, Caleb did notice that the cookies and milk were all gone and that his once empty stocking was full of presents. A couple of times Caleb started to sing "Happy Birthday", so I think there was some confusion. He really loved opening his presents. In fact, most times before even appreciating the contents of the present he was demanding "More Presents"!

One of the stocking stuffers was a couple pairs of socks....his reaction to getting them is classic!

After we opened all the presents downstairs, we told Caleb that Santa had one more present for him on the third floor. His reaction to seeing his kitchen was priceless. As a side note, last night putting this beast together felt like a rite of passage...like we were finally in the parent's Christmas club.

A video of Caleb checking everything out...

After we pried Caleb away from the kitchen, he helped me put my new toy, a waffle iron, to use. We feasted on a big breakfast of waffles and sausage. Caleb ate so much that he looked about as pregnant as me! Of course, he ended up with a head full of syrup so a shower was in order. He was really cute drinking to catch the water in his mouth.

Speaking of bellies...here I am at 32 weeks. The baby is currently breech, with it's little head lodged up in my ribs. I've been feeling very anxious about the position of the baby, even though there is plenty of time for the little one to turn. So, any "baby turn head down" prayers are appreciated!

The boys took a car ride and did more kitchen play time while I cooked our Christmas dinner. I envision spending many hours on the third floor playing kitchen!

Here we are before our big Christmas dinner.

Good night!

First Winter Storm of the Season

Yesterday brought our first big snow storm of the season. We got 9 inches yesterday and overnight and we are supposed to get another couple tonight...and possibly 3-6 inches more tomorrow! Needless to say our backs are tired from shoveling!

Caleb was a bit hesitant about the snow at first, but now he's a full-fledged snow bird! In fact, the only way to get him inside (even if it's obvious that he's cold) is a hot chocolate bribe!

As the first flakes are flying...

After we ate dinner last night, Caleb was eager to get out and get a head start on shoveling.

Finally ready to come inside!

This morning, Caleb was ready for more snow right after breakfast. Bundling him up is a 15 min job at least!

After we shoveled, Caleb enjoyed yet another cup of hot chocolate. I can't believe this mug didn't end up broken on the floor!

The snow we got was so light and fluffy that we couldn't even make a snow ball. I really wanted to make a snowman with Caleb, so we had to get a little creative. We ended up packing his many buckets with snow to make the parts of the snowman...not the prettiest, but Caleb seemed to really like them.

Caleb was kinda cracked up by playing with the lawn-mower in the snow. The tears at the end of the video are b/c he was frustrated that he couldn't push the lawn mower through the deep snow.

Moving on Up!

We decided now was the time to start Caleb's transition from his nursery to his "big boy room". During the day on Friday, Caleb helped me move everything over to his new room and seemed excited by things. We weren't sure how he'd take to the move, but we were pleasantly surprised last night that he took right to it. We haven't quite finished decorating the room and Grammy's making some special curtains to replace the current ones, but here are a few pics of his new digs...

Bubble Bath

Caleb's new nightly request is for a bubble bath. The more suds the better! Randy and I get a kick out of the way he says "bubbles". A couple pics and a video...

Frustrated

This post is in response to a special request from Grammy...

Caleb is really vocal when he gets frustrated about something. As an attempt at reducing the screaming, Randy and I have been teaching him the word "frustrated" so that he can express his feelings a little more quietly. He now says that he is frustrated and asks for help...but still screams a little. This isn't the best video, but you get the idea...

10 weeks to go!

I'm a bit panicked because I'm 30 weeks pregnant this week. Ten weeks doesn't seem like a very long time and I feel like we have lots to do before Baby B arrives. I had a good doctor's appointment this week and Caleb really enjoyed hearing the baby's heartbeat. He asks me all the time now when the baby is going to "come out" and today told me he wanted to "touch the baby". It seems like he is getting excited, but I'm sure he has no idea what he's in for!

My weight gain has been a little subpar and now that my stomach is being squished by my growing uterus, my appetite isn't so great. So I'll be having an ultrasound on the 17th to check the growth of the baby...more for my piece of mind than anything. I'll probably end up having a 10 lb baby :)

Here I am at 30 weeks with Baby B...

...and 30 weeks with Caleb.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

We celebrated Randy's birthday yesterday with a special dinner from Turner's and a cheesecake from Caleb's kitchen! Caleb seemed really excited to be celebrating another birthday, but I'm not sure he realized that the birthday celebration wasn't for him.

Randy had been craving a lobster roll for months, so we decided it was finally time to satisfy that craving. Caleb enjoyed eating fried oysters and fish with ketchup, of course.

Randy's favorite dessert is cheesecake, so Caleb and I did our best to make a good one yesterday.

Caleb and Randy singing Happy Birthday

Caleb had to help blow out the candles

I had been working on getting Caleb to say "Happy Birthday" all day, but kept getting a blank stare in response. When the time was finally right, Caleb broke out into something that kinda resembled "Happy Birthday to You".

Happy birthday to our wonderful husband and father! We love you!

Happy Birthday Caleb!

I started this post last night, but couldn't finish it...so substitute today with yesterday :)

I'm almost in denial posting that Caleb celebrated his second birthday today. Where has time gone? I kept thinking today that Caleb's really not our baby anymore, but a bona fide little boy. I just can't believe how much he's changed in two years and how fast time has passed. We are both so proud of Caleb and today we shamelessly tried to make his day extra special. I'm sure today's blog is a little over the top with pictures and videos, but I guess it's days like today that make you stop and realize how precious your child is and how precious your time is with them. Our constant documenting is an attempt to stop time for a moment, I guess.

We began the day with Caleb's two favorite activities: cooking and eating! He usually insists on using both flour and sugar while cooking, so Randy and I thought that blueberry pancakes would fit the bill. As usual, Caleb was a big help in getting things together.

Quick video of us cooking

Since Caleb loved the candles so much yesterday, we decided that we'd use them whenever possible today. We were shocked when Caleb actually blew them out...and more shocked that we captured it on video!

After breakfast we told Caleb that he could pick one gift to open. He went straight for the biggest box...how classic is that? He knew just what to do with the wrapping paper!

He was so excited about having his very own basketball hoop. All summer long we played basketball at the playground with a hoop that was way too tall for him, so it was kind of cute that he insisted we set up the goal at the lowest level...easy to reach.

Video of Caleb taking shots

It snowed lightly for most of the day, but Caleb insisted that we spent a little time outside. This was the first time that he'd seen snow in a long time and he seemed pretty interested in it. Doesn't he look cute in his hat from Ethan?

Even though it was cold, Caleb found a few minutes to drag "orange" around for a few minutes. We were both a little surprised when he started saying "shovel, shovel". The only thing we can think is that he remembers that we shovel snow? Who knows how long these guys remember!

For lunch we took to his favorite restaurant, Rang, a nearby Indian restaurant. He enjoyed eating samosas, chicken tikka masala, bhindi masala, and some vegetable korma. A little spiciness never bothered him.

After naptime, the eating continued! We decided since he had cake yesterday, we'd let him have his other favorite, ice cream, today. He helped us prepare a mini-sundae with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, hot fudge and whipped cream. Yum! We managed to capture another candle blowing on video.

This child adores his ice cream. He really got every last molecule off his tray and bowl. A couple videos of the feast....

We spent the afternoon just hanging around the house, opening presents, playing with his new toys, and enjoying a Steeler's victory. We knew the drum was gonna be a big hit, but Caleb was also really excited about the music triangle. I think Randy and I better get ear plugs!

Here's Caleb opening his gift from Uncle Matt and Aunt Beth. All of his friends have this barnyard set, so Caleb was really happy to have one for himself.

Last was the 5 ft long alphabet caterpillar...which is now named Ben. Of course, Caleb wanted to add it to his ever-growing collection of animals in his bed but we convinced him that Ben needed to stay downstairs. This was the first toy he went for this morning!

Phew...what a post! Happy Birthday Hero!!!
